MUSIC NOW explored one of the most pressing questions facing the music industry: how does the artist get paid in the evolving digital landscape?

The event was made possible by a grant provided by the NYU Arts and Impact Initiative “Remix the Future,” designed to explore how music shapes and impacts our lives.

The afternoon commenced with a panel discussion of traditional royalty structures in music and how streaming and AI impact that model: where we’ve been and where we are now. Next we featured a future-centered round table focused on disruptors. Which artists are making money in the current landscape and how are they doing it? Where are we headed?

We closed out the afternoon with a special keynote with record producer and rapper Hit-Boy, interviewed by The Recording Academy’s Chantel Sausedo.
